A new concept for cedar greenhouses
Since 1921, Alton has been at the forefront of the Cedar greenhouse market. The iconic sloping sided Amateur greenhouse has led the market for decades and at the time of it's introduction in the 50s it was at the cutting edge of greenhouse design.
Now, the Alton design team have been pooling their vast knowledge and experience, along with years of feedback from Alton customers in order to create a cedar greenhouse for the 21st century.
The ALTON EVOLUTION GREENHOUSE RANGE
Your Alton Evolution model is crafted in Alton's own workshop in Staffordshire. Every piece of Cedar is machined in-house in a fully equiped workshop. Some of the machines have been reliably making Alton greenhouses for over 40 years. Other, more modern additions use CNC technology to give highly accurate results.
Alton Evolution Greenhouse Metal Base
The new design metal base keeps the water well away from the timber parts.
Plus this design feature allows the glass to sit directly onto the metal base which means that rain draining down the side of the greenhouse is not running onto the timber (a 'rot spot' for other greenhouses).
The metal base, which is finished in powder coated 'Moss', is included with all models regardless of which type of capping has been chosen.
Alton Evolution Cedar Motice and Tenon Jointing
Alton Evolution Greenhouses are constructed wholly from Western Red Cedar with extra thick sections of up to 44x69mm using traditional carpentery methods of mortice and tenon jointing for added strength.
Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata) is a distinct species that possesses all the desirable qualities of the other cedars and additional benefits besides.
It can be finished to a smooth silky finish, it is free from pitch and takes and holds paints very well.
Western Red Cedar has a very low coefficient of expansion which means that it does not swell or shrink excessively with the weather and it's natural oils make it virtually immune to decay and also deter insect attack.
Alton Evolution Cedar Greenhouse Capping
Most wooden greenhouses have glass that is held in place by beading or a groove. The result of this can be that the glass rattles in the frame.
The Alton Evolution's newly developed bar capping system uses the toughened glass as an integral part of the overall strength of the greenhouse by gripping it tightly.
Alton Evolution Greenhouse Aluminium Capping
If preferred, the external cedar cappings to the roof and walls can be replaced by aluminium cappings. These grip the glass in the same way using the integral rubber seals.
These aluminium cappings are finished in a powder coated 'Moss' colour that blends well with the cedar and gives a maintenance free finsish
Alton Evolution Greenhouse Guttering
All the Alton Evolution Greenhouse Range are supplied with 'Moss' powder coated aluminium gutters with black plastic downpipes.
These are standard fittings regardless of which capping system you choose.
